Week One Ups & Downs

Week one of the college football season brought us blow out games, close calls, riser and fallers at nearly every position in our Offensive Player Rankings and Defensive Player Rankings. And yet, we are just through week one of the 2012 season.

The big game of course was between Alabama and Michigan, pitting the Big-10 against the SEC. The game was held in Dallas, TX. at Cowboys stadium. The game; unfortunately, did not live up to the hype.

The Crimson Tide all but blew the Wolverines off the field. Creaming the visitors from the North, 41-14. That win enabled Alabama to leap frog to the No. 1 ranking in the AP polls after week one.

SEC foes South Carolina and Vanderbilt kicked the season off officially on a Thursday evening in Nashville, TN. With a controversial pass interference call not being made against the Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier and South Carolina escaped the Tennessee night with a 17-13 victory over the Commodores.

Notre Dame and Navy officially kicked off the first Saturday of the season playing across the pond in Ireland. The Irish; who were the visiting team somehow, thumped the Midshipmen.

And of course, everyone was waiting with anticipation to see how Penn State would look on the field after a summer long tirade of scandals that rocked the college football and personal worlds of so many.

Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, the day would belong to the Ohio Bobcats.

In front over 97,000 screaming and supportive Peen State faithful. The Bobcats were able to control the game and leave State College with a 24-14 victory. Raining on the debut of Bill O'Brien's debut at Penn State.

Blow outs, close calls, missed calls and upsets filled week one of the college football season. A great way to begin 2012 on the grid iron.

We now turn our attention to week two, of what could be one of the wildest college football seasons in some time.
