The BCS is Out After Another Wild Weekend of Action

The first BCS standings of the 2012 season were released on Sunday, with Alabama sitting atop the pack to no ones surprise. Though another SEC team is in the second position. Leaving many to wonder what Florida could have done better than any other team, like Oregon.

Of course, with the first of any BCS rankings, there seems to always be someone or some team that is upset. However, you have to remember, this is the first rankings, and not the final standings. There is a lot of football that has yet to be played.

There is more than enough time for these standings to get shaken up. And as always, I'm sure they will.

The first shake up could be this week as Kansas State travels to West Virginia to take on Heisman hopeful Geno Smith and the Mountaineers, after their blow out loss to Texas Tech. If Kansas State records another signature road win this week against West Virginia, to go along with its Sept. 22 triumph at Oklahoma -- it could get the computer boost needed to leapfrog Oregon.

And you can't forget Notre Dame. The Golden Domers have two upcoming road tests against Oklahoma and USC. Wins in those two games could see the Irish jumping teams in the standings.

Obviously, those in Oregon country are not very pleased with the initial BCS rankings, as they once again have been snubbed out in favour of an SEC team in the second spot.

The Ducks have been winning their games on average by 32.23 points, as well as averaging 52.3 points per contest.

The preconceived notion that the PAC-12 is weak, hinders the Ducks more than anything in the minds of voters, and apparently the computer rankings as well. Although the PAC-12 does have three teams in the top-10 with Oregon State and USC along with the Ducks.

While the toughest portion of Oregon's schedule still lies ahead with match ups at USC, at home against Stanford and on the road at Oregon State. It seems the Ducks are getting punished for that fact.

Fair or not. All of the top teams will still need to prove they are among the nations elite, with big games still to come in November. The meat of the college football schedule is coming up fast. The two teams that can survive and are left standing, will certainly be nations best.

If the release of the first BCS standings of 2012 proved anything. It has shown that the college football world is still controlled by the SEC. And you have to knock the king off the mountain to take the crown.
